About Us
At High Wych Pre-school Nursery we believe that young children learn best while they are playing and having fun. Our safe secure surroundings and caring supportive staff members give children the confidence to be independent learners, help build their self-esteem and support their understanding of boundaries. We encourage children's exploration of the world around them by providing a stimulating and rich learning environment which promotes their physical, creative, emotional, intellectual and social development.
History
High Wych Pre-school Nursery was started in 1976 by a small group of local mums and initially had only two staff and fifteen children. Until Summer 1992 it was held in the High Wych Memorial Hall when the new terms of the Children act 1974 forced a move to a more suitable building. Parents and supporters of the pre-school embarked on a massive fundraising drive and we moved into The Old School building, High Wych Primary School, which was renovated, decorated and equipped by our own hard work. In September 1997, we were asked to move into a newly refurbished nursery unit within the school. During 2009, due to the school wanting use of the classroom during our hired time, we were offered a temporary home at The Sawbridgeworth Evangelical Congregational Church. In February 2011, the 'Sawbridgeworth Young Peoples Recreational Centre' SYPRC (Charity No: 302466) who run the Bullfields centre, approached us as a vacancy during their daytime hire slot became available. In a short space of time over the Easter holidays we moved into our new location and opened here on 26th April 2011.
Our Role as Early Years Practitioners
High Wych Pre-school Nursery complies with Ofsted standards and legislation to provides a safe, secure and stimulating environment for young children to learn through play. We adhere to the government Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 and curriculum to promote learning and development. Our staff regularly attend courses and training in particular First Aid and Safeguarding Children. We work within or above staff/child ratios stated in the Ofsted Statutory requirements working within the legal requirements of the Children Act(2004) and Childcare Act (2006). We recognise that parents are their child's primary educators and wish to promote Home/Pre-school learning links through topics and projects.
Committee - Officers and Trustees
As a charity we are governed by a constitution and use the Early Years Alliance model. The governing body is made up of volunteer parents and people from our local community. The structure is that we have a Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary and Trustees. These people are responsible for ensuring that the charity is suitably managed and sustainable. Our Annual General Meeting is held in the Autumn term and reflects the previous years business.
Key People
Each new child attending the Pre-school will be allocated a member of staff who will be their "Key person". To begin with, they will liaise with you and support your child through the settling in process. They will then ensure that your child's needs are met by observing them at play and monitoring their progress through online learning journals.

Outside Play
My day at Pre-school
I come in my wellies ready for our ‘Wakey Walk’,
Around the field we go, we have lots of time to talk.
We come back in and change our shoes ready for our snack,
Bananas, apples, raisins or breadsticks that go crack?
There’s lots of toys and playthings, and lots and lots to do?
Shall we write or play with sand or paint a tiger blue?
Is it time for story, singing or sitting quietly,
Or am I in the kitchen making cups of tea?
A rousing song we're marching! My dancing is the best,
It’s making me feel out of breath, I’m ready for a rest.
Good-bye to those going home, I’m staying here for lunch,
Hello to some more friends, another happy bunch!
After eating, we'll go out or have parachute games,
Playdough, trains and castles, oh what a busy day.
Out for some fresh air, racing round the field or playing in the park,
Climbing on the climbing frame or chalks that leave a mark.
More play and play and play again, the fun just never ends,
I love to be in Teddy school with all of my good friends.
We say good-bye and leave, it’s that sad time of day,
But we’re happy to see our grown-ups, and wave everyone on their way,
‘See you again tomorrow’ I shout as I leave again,
I can’t wait for another exciting day at HWPSN.
